MDG Remarks
Welcome to our 2nd issue of MDG in Motion. Our intent, as before, is to provide you, our reader, with practical information you can use.

As you may know, Maintenance Design Group is a specialty consulting firm that assists owners, architects, engineers, and other professionals with the planning and design of transit, public works, utility, school, and governmental operating and maintenance facilities. The firm, established in May 1995 and located in Denver, Colorado, with an office added in Houston, Texas, in October 1997, is recognized as one of the leading firms in the United States in the planning and design of maintenance facilities. MDG has built a reputation across its client base for outstanding customer-focused facility designs.

In our Denver, Colorado, office, we have eight staff members: Don Leidy, principal; Steve Silkworth, project manager; Tag Worley, Ken Booth, and Dan Vencill, facility planners; Karen Peterson, administrative manager; Barbara Nali, administrative assistant; and Pam Armstrong, accountant/bookkeeper. Later this year we'll be adding another facility planner to our Denver office.

Currently, we have three staff members in our Houston, Texas, office: Mark Ellis, senior project manager; Shana Burelsmith, facility design specialist; and Brad Hollas, facility planner. Soon the Houston office will be adding an additional staff member who will provide CAD support as well as facility planning.

In this issue of MDG in Motion, we discuss the new generation of transit maintenance facilities that are clean, well-lit, and functional. In addition, we explore the use of design/build for maintenance facilities and whether this technique is right for your project. Look for future issues of our magazine as we bring you information to help your project run more smoothly.
